Head Masters Coach

Richard Garza joins TFA from sunny South Florida. He started swimming competitively in 1996 and swam through college representing Florida Atlantic University. He started coaching in 2008 and over the next 7 years, he has taught over 3000 children and adults how to swim.  He was the Head Age Group coach and Head Masters coach for the Wahoos of Wellington.  Most recently, he received the Kerry O’Brien Coaching Award from USMS, coached for USMS at the Pan American Masters Championships, is the newly elected Chair for the North Texas Local Masters Swimming Committee, and is the Vice-Chair of the National Legislation Committee for USMS.

Later this year, Richard will be the Head Coach for USMS at the World Masters Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Athletically, Richard is a 3 time National Masters Champion, finished the 12.5 miles swim around Key West in just under 5 hours, and finished his first marathon run in 3:20.

Richard took a sabbatical from coaching in 2015 and successfully spent a night in all 50 states on a 5-month road trip across the country. Richard is now back to coaching and is excited to lead our growing Masters program.

He is ASCA Level 2 certified, and USMS Level 4 certified.
