We have a wide variety of members from those that swim for fitness to swimmers with a life time of competitive experience.  If you are looking for fitness opportunities or getting in a workout routine is your goal, our coaches can help you get there.  It’s proven that accountability dramatically improves results.

TFAM is lead by Richard Garza, a former Division 1 collegiate swimmer. He is a USMS Level 4 certified coach, making him one of the top Masters coaches in the nation. Richard is also the Chair for the North Texas LMSC, and is the Head Coach for USMS at this year’s World Masters Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

As a registered USMS swimmer, you will be able to compete as a member of Texas Ford Aquatics Masters in meets.  TFAM is also the home to triathletes who are looking to improve the swim portion of their races.  At TFAM you can train with some of the best athletes in the area to gain a competitive advantage in the water.

We asked our members, “If you had 30 seconds to describe our program to a stranger, what would you tell them?”  Here are their answers:

  • Best master’s swim program and if you are looking for improvements; this is the place.
  • Great program! Both coaches are very knowledgable and personable. This team really feels like a family organization and could not ask for more (Well other than a night time to practice – but do understand that!!)
  • It’s early, it’s cold, it’s hard … but somehow it’s still the best hour of my day.
  • New facility in Frisco, TX. GREAT group of people lead by a smart, enthusiastic coach. Excellent workouts for swimmers of all ranges.
  • If you want to swim with a group and be coached appropriately, join TFAM but it isn’t cheap. But it is worth it.
  • We have fun. We have a coach that cares and therefore works us hard based on our abilities. We are meant to be a team and not a bunch of individuals getting in a workout every day.
  • Fun, team atmosphere that encourages everyone in a healthy lifestyle. All levels feel welcome.
  • You don’t have to be a great swimmer. Masters is open to anyone 18 yrs and up. We have a great team feel to our workouts and Coach Richard provides stroke analysis an feedback. I like the family feel of our team and I like that the workouts always push me to do a little more than I think I can.
  • positive, motivated, active coached workouts for any level
  • That it’s a fun program with all different levels of swimming ability with great coaches.
  • Full body workout for almost any level of swimmer. Coach Richard starts us as team, pushes as a team and encourages is to finish and support each other as a team.
  • The program is very inviting and helpful. A ton of encouragement and support. A great place to train and swim.
  • Great program. Much better swimmer now than when I started. A lot of fun and workouts are great.
  • It’s a really fun group of people where everyone is welcome, at all levels. Richard is an amazing coach who really cares about the team, the program, and individual progress. Richard is an awesome teacher for adults. He knows when to push, he can take our sarcasm goodheartedly. He gives quality feedback as well.
  • Friendly yet competitive environment where everyone enjoys socializing but when it comes to getting into the pool we focus
  • The best program I have attended in North Texas from a coaching and facility perspective.
  • Challenging but a lot of fun!
  • We have a great environment, caring coaches, and fun swimmers at our program.
  • Swimming fitness for all aged adults at various levels from novice to high level competitors
  • Great workout in the best pool in the area.
  • Best master’s program in the country. Well organized with the best coaches.
  • Masters swim team is a great place to meet fun, friendly and motivated people. We push each other to do our best, and make great progress with our goals, whether that be staying in shape, learning to swim, or training for a competition.
  • It is worth it. Your swimming will only get better.
  • Great program to get in shape. The support given from the staff and fellow swimers is un matched. It feels like a family.
  • Masters swim for exercise, training for all levels. Best exercise out there.
  • Good workouts if you want accountability, great pool & being indoors is very helpful
  • It’s a swim program in which not only we have great learning, and awesome workouts with which you would never get bored, every day they are different. A program that has a structure and a purpose. Not only it’s a great program but you will feel like you have a second family, with all the members of the team, and you would have a laugh and a good time in every workout.
  • Great pool; great coaches; great workout.
  • I would say it’s a great group of people and quality coaching. I like that there is a growing group of swimmers interested in swimming in meets together and cheering each other on – no matter the skill level.
  • Positive, encouraging atmosphere for swimmers of all abilities.

The word “Masters” sounds intimidating…
In swimming, Masters and Pre-Masters simply means 18 and older.  It does not mean members are "Master Swimmers" or "experts".  The organization borrowed the name from Golf when it was established in 1970.
Do I have to compete to be a Masters swimmer?
No, but you are highly encouraged to compete.  The main thing is making sure that you have a goal you are working towards.
I’m not fast enough (or in shape enough) to be a Masters swimmer…
This is something a lot of Masters coaches hear. However, most Masters coaches and swimmers don’t care how fast you are.  In nearly every program, there are other adults of similar ability; or have started where you are and have improved. Don’t let your perceived ability, or lack thereof, hold you back.   We have a special program in place for adults who don't feel quite ready for all of swimming done in a Masters workout.  Our Pre-Masters program is designed to help you prepare for our Masters program and get you to where you want to be.  Although it’s important to have a physical examination before starting any exercise routine, you don’t need to be in shape to start swimming!— our Pre-Masters program will help you get there!
I’m a triathlete—why should I join USMS?
Many triathletes, including world-class triathletes Jarrod ShoemakerGwen Jorgensen, and Sara McLarty, joined USMS programs because training with swimmers is the best way to improve the swim portion of a triathlon. Masters coaches provide technique instruction and interval training with a group. USMS membership also grants access to the triathlete-specific workouts posted regularly in the members-only Forums at usms.org. In addition, SWIMMER magazine and STREAMLINES e-newsletters have technique and training tips in each issue.
What can I expect when I attend a USMS practice?
Check out our “Masters Swimming 101” article series for tips about what to bring, common swimming jargon, and how to circle swim, read the clock, and more. Try to swim in a lane that fits your ability and don’t get discouraged! Swimming is different than running, cycling, and other endurance activities. Regardless of your fitness level, it can take months to get into good swimming shape. And don’t be shy—ask for help; most Masters swimmers and coaches are happy to welcome new members. Camaraderie and new friends are two of the best benefits of swimming regularly with a group.
Do I have to join USMS to swim in a Masters practice?
Yes, USMS provides insurance coverage for all individual USMS members and liability insurance for clubs and workout groups. For the insurance to be in effect, all participants within the activity, such as an organized practice or competition, must be registered with USMS. Thus, most USMS clubs and chapters require that all swimmers in their programs be registered with USMS.
What about exercise as I get older?
Study after study has proven that regular exercise can significantly contribute to good physical and mental health. Swimming has continually been identified as one of the best ways to exercise. Stress reduction, weight control, cardiovascular fitness, reduced cholesterol, increased muscle tone, and endurance are all benefits of swimming regularly. The social benefits are equally important; the camaraderie found in most USMS programs helps to keep people in the pool well into their golden years. What is U.S. Masters Swimming?
USMS is a national membership-operated non-profit organization that provides membership benefits to nearly 60,000 Masters swimmers across the country.  These benefits include insurance, SWIMMER magazine, sanctioned events and many others.  USMS and its 52 Local Masters Swimming Committees (LMSCs) provide direct support to more than 1,500 Masters Swimming clubs and workout groups.  Structure and organization of USMS programs vary and are driven by factors such as pool availability, instructor or coach availability, community support and finances.  Coaches write workouts and provide feedback and instruction.
